As Generation Z, commonly defined as those born between 1997 and 2012, makes their way through universities, the growing mental health crisis within this cohort has become a topic of global concern. Only 45 per cent of the Gen Z say their mental health is good, 11% lower than millennials. A whopping 91% of Gen Z said they experienced physical or emotional symptoms due to stress and mental illness in the past year. While much has been written about the struggles Gen Z faces in Western nations, less attention is paid to the unique challenges faced by students in countries like Bangladesh. University students in Bangladesh are encountering a myriad of mental health issues that, if left unaddressed, could have serious long-term repercussions on both the individuals affected and the nation’s development trajectory.
