For Eid-ul-Fitr 2024, I spent five days in Bologna, Italy, where I had the opportunity to explore some of the most beautiful places in the country, including Venice, Rimini, and the small, stunning country of San Marino.
I’ve always had a special affection for small countries, and San Marino was at the top of my list. After arriving in Italy, I knew I had to visit this tiny republic. From Bologna, I made my way to San Marino, a place that, despite its size, left a lasting impression. The moment I arrived, I felt a sense of calm and awe. Standing atop Mount Titano, surrounded by medieval architecture, narrow streets, and breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, I was struck by how such a small country could feel so grand.
There was something incredibly peaceful about San Marino. The historical charm and serenity in the air made it feel like stepping into a different time — where history and nature coexist in harmony. Walking through its cobblestone streets, I felt a deep sense of connection, almost as if I was exploring a well-kept secret that not many people know about. It was a refreshing escape from the bustle of larger cities and a place where I could reflect and simply enjoy the beauty of the moment.
After soaking in the beauty of San Marino, I headed to Rimini, a lively coastal city, before returning to Bologna. But San Marino will always hold a special place in my heart. Its small size belied the depth of its history and the tranquility it offered — a perfect blend of peacefulness and discovery.
Throughout the trip, I was lucky to share these moments with Rafiq, my younger brother, who traveled all the way from his place, 200 km away from Bologna to meet me. His companionship made the journey even more special. He drove us through Rimini and San Marino, ensuring that every part of the trip was an adventure. His presence added warmth to every experience, making this Eid celebration unforgettable.
