Switzerland

In March 2024, I had the unique joy of celebrating Ramadan Eid in Switzerland — a country known not just for its breathtaking landscapes but also for its peaceful atmosphere and cultural diversity. I spent four days and three nights, mainly based in Zurich, while also exploring Basel and Schaffhausen. It was a journey filled with reflection, celebration, and awe-inspiring beauty.

I began my trip by flying into Basel Airport from Hungary, marking the start of a special escape. Basel, located near the borders of France and Germany, welcomed me with its charming old town, modern art museums, and a gentle pace that contrasted the rush of daily life. From there, I traveled to Zurich, where I stayed for most of my trip.

Zurich — Switzerland’s largest city and a global financial hub — surprised me with its harmony between tradition and modernity. Clean, well-organized, and culturally rich, Zurich offered peaceful lakeside walks, vibrant neighborhoods, and the warmth of a diverse Muslim community with whom I celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr. Sharing the joy of Eid in a place so far from home reminded me of how spiritual connection and human warmth can transcend geography.

I also took a day trip to Schaffhausen, a serene town in northern Switzerland known for the majestic Rhine Falls, Europe’s largest waterfall. The sheer power of nature at the falls, coupled with the tranquility of the surrounding town, made for a refreshing and humbling experience.

Switzerland left a deep impression on me — not only for its postcard-perfect landscapes but also for the spiritual peace I found during Eid. It was a reminder that no matter where you are in the world, moments of joy, gratitude, and connection can create a sense of home.
